Luke Beattie Bests Indoor (And Outdoor) State Record Vault

It was only a matter of time. After clearing a PR on a 5-step approach, the bigger bars were sure to come for Luke Beattie (Warwick). At the Steve Borbet Invite, all eyes were on the high flying Junior, as he attempted, and cleared 17-1.5 in the Pole Vault.

That mark is a new New York State Junior, and Overall State Record in the event. It betters the only other athlete to go over 17-0, Jordan Yamoah (Arlington) by half an inch. Yamoah set that record back in 2011, before the new super shoes and composite material poles, and has been one of the few unchallenged records in that time. Beattie, however, has looked inevitable, as he has hit every Class Record on the way up. His mark is also an All-Conditions Record, meaning it betters the Outdoor Record, which stands at 17-1 as well.

Beattie is now US #2 behind another Junior, Victor Olesen of Virginia. Beattie is also tied for NY #5 in the 55m dash, showing how fast he is down the runway.
