Schultz Has Season-Best 200m Finish at Lafayette/Rider Invitational

New York, NY – Junior Derek Schultz (Ocean Port, NJ/Shore Regional) was one of three Seahawks to finish with a season-best time at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Invitational held on Friday at the Armory Indoor Track and Field Center. Schultz finished the 200 meter dash in 23.51 seconds – bettering his previous mark of 23.6 seconds recorded on December 11th.

Schultz's time is roughly one-second off his recording breaking run of 22.42 seconds set on January 23rd, 2009. On Friday, he finished 31st of 36 racers.

Also with a season-best finish in the 500 meter dash is sophomore Colin MacDonald (Dix Hills, NY/Commack). MacDonald finished in 1:07.89 seconds to improve on his previous season-best of 1:08.09 set two weekends ago. He finished ninth in the event out of 19 athletes.

Sophomore Jeffrey Caravello (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) had his best performance of the season in the Pole Vault. Caravello recorded a 4.20-meter leap – just inches off Wagner College's all-time indoor record of 4.267 meters set by Ray Carey in 1982. Caravello finished tenth out of 25 athletes in the event. His previous best mark was 4.05 meters set on January 30th.

The Seahawks return to action on February 20th when they travel to the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships held in Prince George, MD.
