New York, NY –
The Wagner College Men's Track and Field team had two season-best finishes in relay events at the 2010 New Balance Collegiate Invitational held at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York, NY on Friday and Saturday. Among the top performances was a record-breaking finish in the Distance Medley Relay – breaking a 29-year-old record.

Four Seahawks, senior James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood), junior Derek Schultz (Ocean Port, NJ/Shore Regional), senior Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep), and sophomore Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep) earned a trip to Boston, MA by qualifying for the IC4A/ECAC's on March 6th with a 10:13.64 finish in the Distance Medley Relay. The time is nearly seven seconds better than the previous Wagner College record of 10:20.09 set in 1981.

The team's other season-best finish came in the 4x400 meter relay race. Schultz, senior Matt Reidy (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional), Kearney, and sophomore Colin MacDonald (Dix Hills, NY/Commack) knocked one second off the Seahawks' season best time with a 3:28.72 finish. The mark betters the previous season-best of 3:29.51 set at the NYC Gotham Cup on January 15th.

Impressive individual performances include Johnston, who claimed a new season-best in the 800 meter dash with a time of 1:57.51. He finished 28 of 57 racers. Iannacone finished with his second-best time of the year in the 1 mile run. He finished in 4:25.97 in 45th place.

The Seahawks travel to Lehigh, PA for their next competition on February 12th.
