NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Big Red women's track and field teams competed in New York City this weekend at the New York Road Runners' "College Saturday Night at the Armory" on Saturday evening, a scored meet featuring Heps rivals Princeton and Columbia, Big East foe Villanova, ACC power Virginia, as well as Albany, Army,  and Morgan State.  The Cornell women came out on top in the team scoring with 162 points to out-distance second place Virginia by 48 points; Princeton was third with 94.5 points, Villanova was fourth with 92.5 points and Columbia tallied 76 points.

The Cornell women won two events, had 12 top three finishes and produced a season-high 14 ECAC qualifiers to go along with several alterations to the all-time top 10 lists.  The Big Red was led by sophomore Melissa Hewitt, who won the 60 in 7.59 and who was second in the 200 in 24.91, both ECAC qualifiers. Senior Krystal Williams had a seasonal best (and ECAC qualifying) 7.68 in the prelims before placing third in the 60 final in 7.73. Junior Mecha Santos continued her break-out season with a seventh place 7.85 in the 60 dash before coming back to place fifth in the 200 in 25.10, an ECAC qualifier. Freshman Libby O'Brien (fourth, 57.15) and sophomore Kelsey Reimnitz (fifth, 57.29) had very good races as well.

The day got off to a very good start for Cornell in the 1000, the first event of the meet, as the Big Red placed second through fifth. Junior Kim Standridge reached #9 all-time at Cornell with a runner-up showing of 2:51.13. Competing in her first race since last spring, senior Kerri Lyons ran a fine 2:54.61 for third and junior Lauren Bariexca had a big PR of 2:55.73 for fourth as all three were well under the ECAC standard.
