2023 NY Boys XC Preview: Class C

Boys Class C Preview

Individual Snapshots - Section by Section - Top Team Breakdowns

Two races that were set to be dead even heading into States, turned out to be blowouts in 2022. Bennett Melita (Fonda-Fultonville) ran away from a crowded field to win the individual race by nearly thirty seconds, while Bronxville stayed strong where others faltered, taking what was projected to be a single point victory, off to an actual margin closer to 25 points.

Both entities, Melita and half of Bronxville's team, have now graduated, and open the door for new faces at the front. Like we saw the year prior, there is parity among the top teams in the State, with no real differentiation through the Top 5 teams. That means a significant improvement in any single runner can have a major effect in where their team ranks at the end of the day. Individually, 4th place Drew O'Reilly (Westhill) and 5th place Christopher Tardugno (Oyster Bay) are back to fight for a chance at the title, with Tardugno also having the added pressure of being one of those Top 5 teams. Plenty of parity here as well, means either of the two sophomores from last years Top 10, who tend to improve more significantly in their grade change, can also change the makeup of the lead pack.
