An outstanding lineup of athletes who will be competing in the Millrose Games and New Balance Games will be present when the Track Writers meet on Tuesday, January 19 at 5 p.m. at the legendary Coogan’s on Broadway between 168th and 169th Streets. This is the first time the Track Writers are meeting at this time.
Dinner will be served.
The athletes who will be present include:
Erin Donohue, 2008 U.S. Olympian at 1500 meters who attended Haddonfield High School in New Jersey and was an All-American at the University of North Carolina. She hopes to compete for the U.S. at the World Indoor Championships in Qatar in March.
Frank “Gags” Gagliano, Donohue’s coach and former coach at Manhattan, Rutgers and Georgetown. He has coached many world class runners.
Aliann Pompey, former Manhattan College star who was the 2000 NCAA Indoor Champion at 400 meters. Representing Guyana, she was the 2002 Commonwealth Games champion and has competed in the 400 meters at the last three Olympics. She is Guyana’s national record holderr and plans to compete at the World Indoor Championships. She still trains at Manhattan with Jasper coach Joe Ryan.
Emily Lipari of Roslyn, one of the greatest middle distance high school runners in Long Island history, and her parents. Lipari has won numerous big races at the Armory and will be competing in the girls high school mile at the Millrose Games. She has announced her intention to go to Villanova.
On the phone at 5:15 p.m.: 2009 U.S.1500 meter indoor champion Anna Pierce, the 2008 Olympic Trials champion, 2007 USA Outdoor runner-up and 2007 NCAA Outdoor steeplechase champion at Michigan.
