STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Cornell women's track and field team took to the road for the first time in the 2010 indoor season and came away with very strong performances at the Penn State Northeast Challenge on Saturday in State College. Competing against Penn State, Michigan, Penn, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Lock Haven and others, the Big Red came home with an event win and a meet record, several alterations to the all-time top 10 lists, 8 ECAC qualifiers and over 25 top 10 finishes.
Leading the way, senior co-captain
Jessica Weyman set a meet record in winning the 500 in an outstanding 1:13.31, #3 all-time at Cornell, behind only Morgan Uceny '07 and Shonda Brown '05. Joining Weyman in bettering the ECAC standard was senior co-captain
Megan Williams, who PRed in third at 1:15.09 (#8 all-time) and sophomore
Molly Glantz, who was fourth in 1:15.60. Senior Kate Backel also ran well in placing 10th in 1:16.92. Also qualifying for the ECACs was junior Kim Standridge, who boasted a three second PR in placing 4th in the 1000 in a PR 2:52.35 and sophomore
Kristin Brandt, who placed fifth in the triple jump at 38-10 1/2 (#10 all-time), after reaching the finals in the long jump at 17-6, where she was seventh. Cornell enjoyed a very good day in the 3000 as well. Toni-Lynn Salucci '07 travelled to State College and placed second to US World Championship team member Katie McGregor, running a fine early season time of 9:37.63. Senior co-captain
Stephanie Pancoast had a very good early season race to run 9:56.02 to place fifth and qualify for the ECACs. The Big Red had three others in the top ten: freshman
Katie Kellner (7th, 10:05.70), freshman
Genna Hartung (8th, 10:08.10) and senior
Erin Roberts (10th, 10:10.52) all ran very well for early in the season.
The relays were yet again a strong point for the Big Red women. Displaying very good depth in the middle distances, the team had two DMRs in the top four. The quartet of sophomore

Kelsey Karys ran 12:10.97 for third and the squad of sophomore

Nevena Pilipovic-Wengler was fourth in 12:15.48. The 4X800 was third in an ECAC qualifying 9:17.00, behind legs from junior
Lauren Bariexca, Standridge, sophomore
Molly Glantz and senior
Lindsay Broyhill. And the 4X400 ran extremely well to win their heat and place fifth overall in 3:47.02 behind sticks from freshman
Libby O'Brien, WIlliams, Backel and Weyman.
There were some further strong efforts in the field. Sophomore Sam Brady reached #6 all-time at Cornell in the pole vault, clearing 11-5 3/4 to place fourth while freshman
Claire Dishong and
Lindsey Patterson cleared 10-11 3/4 to tie for 10th. Fellow freshman Ailish Hanley had a very good day in the high jump, clearing a college PR of 5-5 to get eighth. Junior Cassie Schweighofer reached the finals of both the shot put and weight, placing 6th in the weight at 49- 11/2 and 8th in the shot put at 42-10 3/4. Freshman
Victoria Imbesi was 11th in the shot put at 41-7 1/4. Junior Kim Lienhoop was 13th in the long jump at 16-7 1/2 and 10th in the triple jump at 36- 11 1/2.

Lindsay Broyhill (9th, 2:18.93) in the 800, freshman
Maria Catanzarite (10th, 2:59.71) in the 1000, Brown (9th - but second in her heat, 5:05.29) and Clarke (11th, 5:07.37) in the mile, sophomores Dani Silas (11th, 9.05) and
Taylor Baird (12th, 9.10) in the 60 hurdles and O'Brien (15th, 58.68) in the 400.
