Raiders Win One Crown, Break School Record at Syracuse Welcome Back

- The Colgate women's track & field team finished with one first-place title, one school-record, and seven top-three finishes at the Syracuse Welcome Back Invitational at Manley Field House on Saturday, January 16.

Sophomore Chelsea Burns (Seattle, Wash.) led the Raiders in the distance events winning the mile with a time of 5:15.09, which is the third best time posted in the Patriot League this season. Sophomores Elise DeRoo (Newtown, Conn.)  and Kendall Lyons (Wilton, Conn.) finished second and third in the 3,000-meter run with a times of 10:08.86 and 10:29.42, respectively. DeRoo's time was the fourth best in school history and is the fastest time posted in the Patriot League this season.

Senior Ashley Niness (Berwyn, Pa.) finished third in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:21.37, while junior Michele Miller (Silver Spring, Md.) finished fourth in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:19.41, Miller's time ranks fourth in the Patriot League.
 
If the field events, senior Alisandra Denton (Hood River, Ore.) broke the Colgate record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.10m (10'-2”), while classmate Lauren Abuouf (Livingston, N.J.) finished second the weight throw (13.85m) and shot put (11.40m).

The Raiders will revisit Cornell when it competes in the Cornell Upstate Challenge Saturday, January 23.
