McNamara, Taylor Shine at NYC Gotham Cup

Junior Mishelle McNamara (West Covina, CA/West Covina) and freshman Sheena Taylor (Twinsburg, OH/Detriot Mercy) stood out at the NYC Gotham Cup held on Friday at The Armory Track and Field Center in New York City. Both Seahawks dominated their individual field events with top five finishes.

McNamara jump started her season with a third place finish in the Pole Vault. Against stiff competition, McNamara placed third among 13 athletes with a 3.25 meter mark. She also tied her season-best mark in the high jump with a 1.50m leap. Her efforts earned her tenth place in the event.

Taylor continued her dominance in the Weight Throw and Shot Put events, with two top-five finishes. She took third in the Weight Throw with a season-best mark of 15.11 meter – shattering her previous best of 14.67 meter set one week ago. Taylor also earned fourth place honors with another season-best length of 12.81 meters.

Other throwers, freshman Nicolette Faison (Elmont, NY/Elmont) and junior Samantha Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield), had strong showings in their events. In the Weight Throw, Faison took 13th at 12.94 meters, while Schueschner placed 14th at 12.66 meters.

Rounding out the top finishes for the Seahawks were senior captain Amanda Gland (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) and freshman Tiffany Dawson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis), whom finished seventh and tenth in the Long Jump respectively.

Wagner returns to action next Saturday at the Lehigh Invitational.
