Southern Tier Collegiate Open Results Now Available

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell track and field teams rang in 2010 with solid performances at the Southern Tier Collegiate Open at Barton Hall on Friday evening. Competing against teams from Colgate, Mansfield and Queens University, many Big Red were able to return to campus early to shake off winter break rust.
The men won 11 events and had an impressive five IC4A qualifiers. Six wins came on the track, starting with sophomore Nick Huber, who reached #5 all-time at Cornell in the 60 hurdles with an IC4A qualifier of 8.24; he was followed closely by senior Ola Williams (8.32) and sophomore Dan Hagberg (8.37) in second and third. Classmate Brian Freitas won the 800 in a time of 1:58.83 and junior Cody Boyd returned to action with a 50.00 first-place run in the 400. A pair of freshmen placed first: Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom won the 60 in 7.03 and Nick Wade was first in the mile in 4:20.69, with senior Dale Taylor a close second in 4:22.08. The quartet of Huber (50.8), senior co-captain Michael Kippins (49.4), Boyd (50.4) and Freitas (50.0) won the 4X400 in 3:20.65. The Big Red won five of six field events. Sophomore Bob Belden won the shot put in an IC4A qualifier of 51-3; in the weight, senior Damian Silverstrim was second at 57-11 3/4 and Belden was third in 55-7 as both eclipsed the IC4A standard. Freshman Pat Roach also qualified for the IC4As in winning the vault with a clearance of 15-9. Senior Jay Pierce won the high jump at 6-6 1/4 and sophomore Vince Formica (22-6 1/4) and senior Julian Remounds (43-1 3/4) helped the Big Red sweep the long and triple jumps. 
The women had 10 event wins to start 2010. Sophomore Kristin Brandt was a double winner, taking the long jump with a leap of 17-9 and missing the ECAC standard by only two centimeters in winning the triple jump with a mark of 38-7 3/4. Junior Kim Lienhoop was second in both with leaps of 17-3 1/2 and 37-4 1/2. Freshman Clare Dishong had a good debut, winning the pole vault with a clearance of 11-3 3/4 (#7 all-time) and classmate Ailish Hanly won the high jump, going 5-3. Yet another freshman, Victoria Imbesi, won the shot put with a mark of 40-10 1/4, with junior Cassie Schweighofer second at 40-3 1/2; Schweighofer came back to place second in the weight at 47- 11 1/4. Cornell was also impressive on the track. Senior co-captain Stephanie Pancoast doubled back after placing second in the mile (5:09.71) with a win in the 1000, running 3:03.92, just ahead of junior Alana Levy, who ran 3:04.00. Fellow senior Kate Backel led wire to wire in winning the 500 in 1:17.52. Junior Kim Standridge won the 800 in 2:16.95, with sophomore Molly Glantz second in 2:17.84 and senior co-captains Jess Weyman (2:18.95) and Megan Williams (2:19.34) in third and fourth. Sophomore Meghan Brown ran well to place first in the 3K in 10:34.69 and classmate Dani Silas won the 60 hurdles in 9.36. Other top three finishes came from freshman Genna Hartung in the mile (3rd, 5:11.41), senior Lindsay Broyhill in the 1000 (3:05.54), freshman Katie Kellner in the 3000 (10:31.81), sophomores Sam Brady (2nd, 10-10) and Kerry McDermott (3rd, 10-4) in the pole vault and sophomore Jess Wilson (17-0 3/4) in the long jump.
