ITHACA, N.Y. (1/8/10)— Senior Ashley Niness (Berwyn, Pa.) set a personal-record in the 500-meter dash as the Colgate women's indoor track and field team kicked off the New Year Friday (Jan. 8) at the Southern Tier Collegiate Open.

No team scores were recorded in the meet with the Raiders competing in a small selection of events.
 
Niness and junior Michele Miller (Silver Spring, Md.) finished second and third in the 500m dash with times of 1:19.79 and 1:21.00, respectively, to headline the sprinting events.

Sophomore Chelsea Burns (Seattle, Wash.) led the Raiders in the distance events finishing second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:31.70. 

If the field events, senior Lauren Abuouf (Livingston, N.J.) won the weight throw with a mark of 15.08m (49'-5.75”), her second best mark. Abuouf also finished third in the shot put with a toss of 11.28m (37'-0.25”).
 
The Raiders will return to the track at the Syracuse Invitational on Jan. 16.
