The success continues for the Orange athletics program. For the first time in the history of the Orange athletics program, nine teams are featured in their sport's national ranking or project to be ranked once their season starts, including men's and women's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, ice hockey and men's rowing. Men's lacrosse is #2 in pre-season rankings.

Syracuse was ranked fifth in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Learfield Sports Director's Cup standings after the first segment of championships, which is the highest rank in school history.

Three winter sports, including men's and women's basketball and ice hockey, are ranked nationally and three fall teams earned NCAA Championship invitations.

Syracuse's basketball squads are both undefeated and are ranked nationally. Under the direction of head coach Jim Boeheim, the men's team has marquee victories against North Carolina, California and Florida, while head coach Quentin Hillsman has the women's squad off to the best start in school history. Syracuse is one of two programs with undefeated men's and women's teams.

The Orange ice hockey squad is ranked 10th-nationally in just its second season as a collegiate sport at SU. The team has a 12-7-1 record and the 12 victories surpass the program's win total from its inaugural 2008 season (nine).

The men's and women's cross country squads and the field hockey team represented the Orange in NCAA Tournaments during the fall. The women completed its historic season with an 18th-place finish at the national championship meet and ranked 12th in the country. The men's 14th-place finish was the best for the Orange since 1959 and the team was 11th in the final national ranking, which was the highest in school history. Head coach Chris Fox was voted U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Northeast Region Coach of the Year, while Katie Hursey was named the oraganization's Northeast Region Woman Athlete of the Year.

Head coach Ange Bradley guided the Orange to its second-consecutive NCAA Championship, where the Orange advanced to the Elite Eight. Bradley was voted BIG EAST Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons.
