Kopeloff Flirts with Wagner 60m Hurdles Record at Fordham Christmas Classic

FULL RESULTS

Bronx, NY – Freshman Alan Kopeloff (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) came within one step of etching of his name in the Wagner College record books in only his second collegiate meet. Kopeloff competed in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing in first place with a time of 8.8h – just 0.67 seconds off of the Seahawks all-time mark of 8.13 set by Erik Hjartnes in 2006.

Kopeloff claimed one of Wagner's four first place finishes on the day along with senior Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep), sophomore Jeffrey Caravello (Cranford, NJ/Cranford), and Tyler Jeffries.

Kearney took the top-spot in the 800 meter dash, finishing in 2:00.1h. The senior captain's best-time in the event last season came at the METS Indoor Championship on January 26, 2009 – where he finished just two seconds off the College's all-time record at 1:57.62.

Caravello finished in first place in the Pole Vault with a mark of 3.95m (12'11.5”) – matching his season-best mark from a week ago at the MAC Invitational. Jeffries bested his season-best mark with a 10.69m (35'1”) throw in the Shot Put event. His efforts earned him his first collegiate first place finish.

Other impressive finishes came from junior Derek Schultz (Ocean Port, NJ/Shore Regional), senior James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood), and sophomore Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep). Schultz finished third in the 500 meter run (1:09.0h), while Johnston took second in the 1000 meter run (2:34.6h) and Iannacone placed second in the 3000 meter run (9:04.7h).

Today marked the last 2009 event for the Wagner College Track and Field team. The team will return to action after the holiday break on January 8th.
