West Long Branch, NJ – The Women's Indoor Track and Field team kicked off their 2009-2010 season at the Inaugural MAC Invitational held at Monmouth University's brand new Multipurpose Activity Center. The Seahawks had a number of strong performances but fell short the Monmouth Hawks in 13 events scored.
Leading the way for the Seahawks in track events was junior
Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY/MacArthur), who finished the 600 meter run in 1:43.20. She took second place in the event. Balling's mark is just two seconds off of Wagner's all-time record, 1:41.69 set during the 1993 season.
Wagner's relay teams appeared like they were in midseason form – taking first place honors in the 4x400 meter relay and the 4x1600 meter relay. The 4x400 team, consisting of sophomore
Francyna Evins (Staten Island, NY/Curtis High), freshman
Andrea Dombek (Newington, CT/Northwest Catholic), sophomore
Tiffany Dawson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis High), and Balling finished in 4:18.38, while the 4x1600 team of freshman
Taylor Fredrickson (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville), freshman
Kelly Dennis (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa Academy), senior
Jenna Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland), and senior
Nicole Panik (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa Academy) took first with a 23:27.18 mark.
Field events went equally well – with Dawson finishing first in the Long Jump with a 5.48m leap and freshman
Sheena Taylor (Twinsburg, OH/Detriot Mercy) taking home two top-spots in the shot put (12.52m) and the weight throw (13.82m).
The women's next event will take place on Friday, December 11th at the Fordham Invitational.
