11/15/2009 8:18:00 PM

BOSTON, Mass. -- Competing in extremely sloppy and muddy conditions at Boston's Franklin Park, the Cornell women's cross country teams put together an impressive sixth place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday, highlighted by two All-Region performances, including a 12th place individual finish from senior captain Stephanie Pancoast.

The women closed out their season with one of their best races of the fall, improving considerably on their most recent showing at the Heps, placing 6th with 153 points, only 13 points from third. Turning the tables on Columbia from the Heps, the Big Red also closed the gap on Heps runner-up Harvard, finishing only 4 points behind the Crimson. Senior co-captain Stephanie Pancoast led the way again for the Big Red, earning her second career All-Region honor to place a career best 12th in 22:40. Joining her on the All-Region team was freshman Genna Hartung, who capped a terrific rookie season with a 24th place showing of 22:56. Close behind was another freshman, Kelsey Karys, who ran a terrific race to place 29th in 23:11. Fellow freshman Katie Kellner finished up her outstanding first season with a 43rd place run of 23:27 and sophomore Meghan Brown placed 45th in 23:29, improving on her performance from this meet a year ago. Senior Erin Roberts had a good run to place 60th in 23:48 and junior Maura Carroll was 128th in 24:50. Despite graduating four from last year's team, the Big Red matched last year's 6th place showing and had two All-Region honorees for the first time since 2006.
