New York Boys State Rankings - Week 2

Following Week of Saturday, September 24

The action for the previous week saw Saint Anthony's head down to GA and the Wingfoot Classic to pick up a 2nd behind TN power Brentwood. Corning was the top NY team vying with the top quartet of NJ teams at Bowdoin, and Tr-Valley represented well against the much bigger teams, including the biggest of the big, Brooklyn Tech. At the big Baldwinsville meet, Fairport came away with a decisive  win over Ithaca, Burnt Hills, Fayetteville-Manlius and the host team. At East Aurora, Orchard Park outran the home team in the Large Schools race, but Oakfield-Alabama and Southwestern had the second and third best average times in the Small Schools race. At Van Cortlandt Park, Xavier and Trinity were the top two teams at the Xavier invite.

This week we expand the number ranking slots a little bit as more teams prove they have full squads. Teams that have no results from a speed-rated invitational meet are now not in the listings, but this weekend's action out west should bring most of the hold-outs into the fold.

Teams are listed with the average speed ratings numbers supplied by Tully Runners, and the number in parentheses shows difference between the 1-5 runners, each point equaling 3 seconds on a 5K course, and smaller compression numbers are generally better.

The biggest action this week will be out west at the Genesee Valley Park in Rochester for the McQuaid Invitational. Other meets include Tom Knipfing on Friday and Brewster Bear, Saint Anthony's, Grout, PSAL Marty Lewis, and Whitesboro in NY. Out of state action includes the Great American Festival in Cary NC, and an occasional NY team also heads to the huge  New Jersey Shore Coaches meet.
