Outlook: The Spartans lost three of their top 4 with the departures of Peter Fulgieri, Ryan Allison, and Nick Grock, but they still have a solid core of returners headed by Matthew Rounds and Matt Windecker. Burnt Hills always develops well during the season, and if the younger guys move up as expected, the team will be in the running not only for its sixth straight States B title but also for another Nationals bid.

Outlook: The Golden Bears were a major power back in the mid 1950s when they reeled off three States A wins, but last year was their first appearance at the state championship in more than ten years. This year with seniors Liam Cody and Tim Smith leading the way for a veteran lineup, Vestal looks in line to move up a lot from its 5th place finish at States last year with the top four back and some young guys developing to fill the 5th and 6th spots.

Pearl River (Pirates)

States Teams: 1976 (B-4th), 1977 (B-5th), 1978 (B-1st), 1980 (B-1st), 1981 (B-3rd), 1983 (B-2nd), 1984 (B-11th), 1991 (B-7th), 1993 (C-8th), 1994 (B-6th), 1995 (B-10th), 1996 (B-9th), 1999 (C-5th), 2000 (C-2nd), 2001 (C-2nd), 2002 (C-5th), 2005 (B-1st), 2007 (B-5th), 2010 (B-5th), 2011 (B-8th), 2015 (B-6th), 2017 (B-5th), 2018 (B-2nd), 2019 (B-7th), 2021 (B-7th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers):  Dan McEvoy (1976, B-3rd), Matt Kohlbrenner (1977, B-10th) (1978, B-5th), Casey Jirgal (1978, B-3rd), Andy Kohlbrenner (1979, B-4th) (1980, B-6th), Tom List (1979, B-7th), Kevin Mahoney (1980, B-3rd) (1981, B-6th), Tom Dempsey (1982, B-9th), Tom Guanari (1983, B-4th), Jim Guerci (1983, B-9th), Brendan Fennell (2000, C-1st) (2001, C-1st) (2002, C-3rd), Mike Hickey (2007, B-5th) (2008, B-3rd), Brian Cook (2012, B-3rd) (2013, B-3rd), Ben McDermott (2014, B-7th), Matt Politis (2016, B-9th)

Outlook: Last year the 7th-place States Pirate squad was filled with sophomores and juniors, and this year they should all be back for a very deep team. If some of the guys at the top push the ceiling higher in their junior year, Pearl River should be behind only Burnt Hills in Class B this year and maybe ready to challenge for its second States title in 2023.

Outlook: The Brothers have most of their top 7 back this year and a nice tight pack. Ensconced in the same section as Burnt Hills, CBA's chances for a visit to States aren't good, but the team should have a very competitive season in invitational action.

Averill Park (Warriors)

States Teams: 1989 (B-2nd)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Ben Wright (1995, B-9th), Tyson Evenson (1999, B-7th) (2000, B-5th), Andrew Tario (2012, B-10th)

Outlook: The Warriors have most of their squad back from last year's 4th-place S2-B team, and senior Colin Brunelle is rated as one of top 10 States B returners, but again the issue for Averill Park is that it is stuck in a competitive S2-B section with Burnt Hills dominating it all.

Westhampton Beach (Hurricanes)

States Teams: 2018 (B-6th), 2019 (B-5th), 2021 (B-2nd)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers):  Kevin Hogan (1988, B-2nd) (1989, B-1st), Jason Brewer (1992, B-2nd), Gavin Ehlers (2019, B-5th) (2021, B-2nd), Maximus Haynia (2021, B-7th)

Outlook: The Hurricanes gave it their all last year and were actually ahead of Burnt Hills at States after three places by a count of 12 to 15 before finishing 2nd by 35-71. With States runner-up Gavin Ehlers moving on as a member of a trio of seniors in the top 5, Westhampton Beach's season behind States medalists Maximus Haynia and Trevor Hayes revolves around how it can fill out a very thin squad. The top duo are both strong contenders for an individual title at States.

McQuaid (Knights)

States Teams: 1973 (A-7th), 1978 (A-6th), 1980 (A-5th), 1981 (A-1st), 1983 (A-4th), 1984 (A-1st), !985 (A-2nd), 1991 (A-3rd), 1992 (A-1st), 1993 (A-8th), 2009 (A-2nd), 2010 (A-1st), 2014 (A-8th), 2015 (A-8th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Scott Peterson (1985, A-7th), Dan Lesser (1993, A-7th), Robert Hurlbut (2009, A-2nd) (2010, A-1st), Wyatt Gouldthorpe (2010, A-10th), Nick Ciolkowski (2013, A-10th), Donny Glavin (2015, A-3rd), Jayson Chichelli (2021, B-5th)

Outlook: The reigning S5-B champ Pittsford Mendon lost four of its top six to graduation, and that opens the door a bit for McQuaid. The Knights lost States 5th-place finisher Jayson Chichelli and #3 guy Jacob Anderson, so they are not exactly flush either, but senior Collin Brown is back from a 12th-place finish at States and is looking for a young group to develop behind him. Brown should be one of the leading contenders for the States individual title.

Batavia (Blue Devils)

States Teams: 1986 (B-10th), 1989 (B-8th), 1990 (B-11th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Gary Radka (1978, B-7th), Dave Dedman (1986, B-10th), Ville Ranta (1999, B-1st)

Outlook: The Blue Devils finished 4th in the S5-B last year but return the entire varsity crew for the battle in a wide open section and have Nathan Canale leading the way after a trip to States.

States Teams: 1974 (B-9th), 1982 (B-5th), 1987 (A-5th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Pete Pfitzinger (1974, B-5th), Jim Herkimer (1988, A-1st), Matt Wilkins (1991, A-1st), Ben Ashfield (1996, A-9th), Mark Stevens (2003, B-2nd), Paul Phelan (2007, A-10th), Mike Anvelt (2011, B-4th)

Outlook: The Knights have six of their top 7 guys back from last year's 5th place S5-B varsity, and they are one of four teams there that enter the season seemingly pretty well-matched for maybe an outstanding sectional battle.

Brewster (Bears)

States Teams:  2000 (B-7th), 2009 A-4th), 2010 (A-5th),
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Tim Tuttle (1995, B-8th) (1996, B-3rd), Frank McCreery (2001, B-7th), Justin Maguire (2010, A-5th) (2011. B-5th), Charlie Carr (2010, A-8th), Kevin Hazelwood (2015, B-7th)
