Outlook: The Hawks are the reigning States champs who not only enter the new season with by far the best speed ratings but also a lot of depth. Nationals finalist Jack Gregorski and #3 guy Matthew Gensel are gone from last year's squad, but States top returner Ashton Bange is back to lead a strong group that looks good for a fourth States title in six years and a second trip to NXN Nationals.

Outlook: The Hornets' senior middle core from last year that included Daniel Patrick, Jackson Matthews, and William Seamans is gone, but the top two of senior Anthony Otis and junior Nolan McGinn are back. Preseason it appears that FM should have just enough depth to win its fifth straight S3-A title over West Genesee and Baldwinsville, but its string of 12 straight appearances at Nationals is less secure.

Fairport (Red Raiders)

States Teams: States Teams: 1986 (A-4th), 1988 (A-3rd), 1989 (A-2nd), 1990 (A-5th), 1995 (A-5th), 1996 (A-2nd), 1997 (A-4th), 2003 (A-6th), 2006 (A-8th), 2017 (A-5th), 2019 (A-8th)

Outlook:  The Red Raiders lost top two guys John Farrell, the sectional champ, and Ben Schwab to graduation and return only three guys from last years S5-A runner-up varsity. The key to their high ratings then is a solid core of JV guys coming back this year to give Fairport depth and good compression in the 1-5 spread. Junior Jake Passalungo was 10th at Sectionals last year and leads the campaign to win back the title the Red Raiders last captured in 2019.

Monroe-Woodbury (Crusaders)

States Teams: 1961 (B-6th), 1969 (B-3rd), 1970 (B-3rd), 1974 (A-2nd), 1975 (A-3rd), 1984 (A-2nd), 1985 (A-3rd), 1988 (A-9th), 1992 (A-7th), 1994 (A-2nd), 2017 (A-6th) , 2019 (A-5th), 2021 (A-7th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers):  Joe Belmonte (1960, B-6th), Bruce Mapes (1970, B-8th), Ralph Semmel (1973, A-4th), Jim O'Shea (1975, A-1st) (1976, A-5th), Mike Grogan (1975, A-7th), Andy Halpin (1976, A-3rd), John Murphy (1980, A-10th), John Trautmann (1983, A-2nd) (1984, A-1st) (1985, A-1st), Jim Trautmann (1989, A-9th), Brian McKnight (1995, A-9th) (1996, A-1st)

Outlook: The Crusaders lost the back half of last year's States 7th place varsity, so there will be some work to do to fill out the ranks behind its very strong top senior trio of Collin Catherwood, Collin Gilstrap, and John Urcioli. MW really shouldn't get a strong challenge in S9-A this year, and there are some indicators from track season that there are some younger guys ready to step up for the 4-6 spots on the team.

Calhoun (Colts)

States Teams: 2009 (A-3rd), 2010 (A-8th), 2015 (A-9th), 2021 (A-9th)

Outlook: The Colts won their first S8-A title in six years in 2021 and this year they have five guys back from the varsity, though some key top guys were lost. Calhoun should win Sectionals again with junior Logan Schaeffler on the lead, and the team has a good shot to move up at States from last year's 9th place finish.

Saratoga (Blue Streaks)

States Teams:  1987 (A-3rd), 1988 (A-1st), 1999 (A-2nd), 2000 (A-3rd), 2001 (A-1st), 2004 (AA-3rd), 2005 (AA-1st), 2012 (A-1st), 2013 (A-3rd), 2015 (A-4th), 2016 (A-4th)   NXN Nationals:  2005 (1st), 2012 (12th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers):  Steve Kaye (1963, B-8th), Bill Briell (1963, B-10th) (1964, A-8th), Dennis Schwartz (1967, A-9th) (1969, A-10th), Matt Wood (1994, A-10th), Dylan Welsh (1996, A-5th) (1997, A-2nd) (1998, A-1st), Chris Dore (2001, A-9th), Sean Curran (2001, A-6th), Mike Foley (2002, A-9th), Steve Murdock (2004, AA-6th) (2005, AA-2nd), Greg Kelsey (2005, AA-3rd), Dmitri Goutos (2007, AA-9th) (2008, AA-7th), Sam Place (2009, AA-7th) (2010, AA-2nd), Jay Navin (2012, A-10th), Aidan Tooker (2014, A-4th) (2015, A-2nd), Shea Weilbaker (2018, A-1st), Ryan Bush (2021, A-2nd)

Outlook: It's been six years since Saratoga's last Sectional win, and last year the Blue Streaks finished 3rd in the S2-A and lost top guy and States runner-up Ryan Bush. So why do they enter the season as moderate favorites in their Section? Mainly it's the depth, as they are the only team in S2-A bringing back five guys rated over 140 after champ Shenendehowa and runner-up Niskayuna lost three of their top 5 varsity guys. Toga's returning States finalist Mason Talerico will lead a senior group that will have the veteran status to start the season.

Outlook:  A team named Thomas led by a Thomas, Connor Thomas along with his fellow senior Evan Lacey, has something going for it. Only three guys are back from last year's S5-A champ Titan varsity, but there is good strength at the top and WT should be challenging for a repeat title if it can fill in the back of the lineup.

Outlook: The Wildcats have never had a team at States, and unless a lot of depth is found behind top-rated NY guy Peter McMahon, this year will likely not be the first. Still, there are some young guys coming up who could provide some exciting new results, and McMahon could be looking at a visit to Nationals in 2022 after finishing 16th last year in an Eastbay NE regional in which 11 of the top 12 guys were seniors.

Northport (Tigers)

States Teams: 2001 (A-4th), 2002 (A-3rd), 2003 (A-8th), 2012 (A-3rd), 2013 (A-2nd), 2019 (A-3rd), 2021 (A-4th)

Outlook: The Tigers have three of their top 5 guys back from last year's 4th place States team. The loss of Wyeth Semo and Brandon Meiner will hurt, but Northport may still have enough at the top with returners Timothy Sheahan, Brando Cruz, and James McNaughton to claim a third straight S11-A title if some development work can be done at the back.

Baldwinsville (Bees)

States Teams: 1951 (B-7th), 1952 (B-3rd), 1953 (B-2nd), 1954 (B-3rd), 1955 (B-1st), 1956 (B-1st), 1964 (A-8th), 1978 (A-8th)

Shenendehowa (Plainsmen)

States Teams: 1977 (A-8th), 1984 (A-7th), 1991 (A-9th), 1992 (A-4th), 1994 (A-1st), 1995 (A-2nd), 1996 (A-3rd), 1997 (A-2nd), 1998 (A-1st), 2002 (A-1st), 2003 (A-1st), 2006 (AA-1st), 2007 (AA-2nd), 2008 (AA-1st), 2009 (AA-6th), 2014 (A-2nd), 2018 (A-4th)   NXN Nationals: 2006 (6th), 2007 (14th), 2008 (7th), 2019 (A-2nd), 2021 (A-3rd)

Outlook: Shen lost six of the top 8 from last years States 3rd place squad including top 20 medalists Nathan Brimhall and Michael Clay. A big rebuilding project will be needed here, but senior States vets Christian Fox and Logan Doll give the Plainsmen a good foundation to work with.

North Rockland (Red Raiders)

Outlook: The Red Raiders finished far back in 3rd in S1-A and lost top guy Michael Niero to graduation, so this wouldn't be the first place to look for a contender. But the rest of the varsity is back for a team that has some veteran depth plus a few very young guys, one of whom has a brother Patrick Tuohy who did well in States five years ago and a sister Kaitlyn Tuohy who was known to be pretty good at blazing trails. There should be a lot of upside for North Rockland in the S1-A battle with reigning champ Mamaroneck and Arlington.
