2022 NY Boys XC Preview: Class A

Section by Section Class A Overview

SectionTop TeamsNotes
1North Rockland, Mamaroneck, Arlington
With a mix of veterans and young talent in what should be a really tight race, the Red Raiders may recapture the S1-A title they won in 2019. Reigning champ Mamaroneck lost its top guy, and Arlington lost half of its top six.
2Saratoga, Shenendehowa, Guilderland, NiskayunaAll of the top S2-A teams lost heavily to graduation, but the Blue Streaks have last year's 2nd through 6th guys back, and that could give Toga enough top depth to replace Shen as champs.
3Fayetteville-Manlius, Baldwinsville,  West Genesee, Liverpool
The Hornets again enter the season with a little more top level depth than the rest of the S3-A teams, but the addition of a few key new runners could change the scenario here if squads fill out the back of the line more strongly.
4Corning, Horseheads, Ithaca
Despite key losses, the Hawks are considerable favorites to win a repeat States title and their eighth S4-A crown in nine tries.
5Fairport, Webster Thomas, Churchville-Chili, Brighton, Rush-Henrietta
Despite the fact that reigning champ WT returns its top 2 while Fairport lost theirs, the Red Raiders appear to have more depth. Again, the situation here could change hugely as the top contenders fill out their squads.
6Clarence, Orchard Park
Reigning S6-A champs Clarence lost two of its top three, and Orchard Park could challenge if last year's young guys at the back move up strongly.
7No representatives
8Calhoun, Great Neck South
S8-A champ Calhoun is the huge favorite again as it returns five guys from last year's varsity, and GNS is the only other team that returns more than one runner with a TR north of 140.
9Monroe-Woodbury, Minisink Valley
Reigning S9-A camp MW needs to fill out the back line, but it has its top 3 back, while usual contenders like Warwick Valley and Washingtonville lost their top 7 and top 4 respectively, and that's a big-ouch siituation.
10No representatives
11Northport, Bay Shore, Ward Melville, Smithtown, Commack, Eastport-South Manor
Northport won easily last year but lost two of its top 3 to graduation, so S11-A is shaping up to be a highly competitive group as it overall suffered lighter senior losses than some other sections.
