Saint Anthony's (Friars)
Last Year's Summary: 10th in Federation, 3rd in CHSAAOutlook: The
Friars will be a difficult team to beat in the CHSAA in 2022 both because they have a reliable established senior core at the top and also a pack of younger guys coming up who should see some big upside. All but one guy returns from last year's top 10, and the lead senior quartet of Aidan Brancaccio, Hunter Wilson, Jeremy Paredes, and Sean Dearie have something to prove in this year's championship and later maybe a bid for Nationals. The 20th CHSAA title has been elusive since the 19th was taken in 2015, but 2022 should be the year.
Xavier (Knights)
Outlook: The Knights fell to the Rams by 6 points last year with a varsity squad that was composed largely of seniors, so this year is something of a rebuilding and restocking year. Fortunately there was quite a bit of talent in the JV ranks behind top 15 returners Finn Sweeney and Matthew McCabe to fuel a run for the title this year, but on a squad again including mainly seniors, a lot of progress will be needed to challenge a deeper Friar squad.
Monsignor Farrell (Lions)
Last Year's Summary: 30th in Federation, 5th in CHSAA
Outlook: The Lions have just two returners from last year's 5th-place varsity squad that was headed by Anthony Zarrella in 8th place. Nonetheless after a year that saw many of the CHSAA teams with senior-heavy lineups, Farrell begins the year rated 3rd in the projections, and with an exclusively senior preseason team headed by Michael Mason and Alphonse Trapanese that should get the Lions one of the berths for Federations.
Xaverian (Clippers)
Last Year's Summary: 8th in CHSAA
Outlook: The Clippers have almost all of last year's varsity back including top-20 guy Justin Schwartz, and they also are fairly young in comparison to many of the other CHSAA teams. A big leap up from last year's 8th-place finish seems likely along with a spot at Federations, though getting league approval for the lower half of their new uniforms will be trickier.
Chaminade (Flyers)
Outlook:
The Flyers' 2020 CHSAA champs had a team headed by four seniors, so defending the crown was always going to be a long shot last year. Both Chaminade and top guy senior Liam Going got 4ths last year, which was very respectable. Five of the guys were seniors, though, so another rebuilding year is needed again behind seniors Jack Higgins and Patrick Mulryan. The Flyers should have enough depth to capture a Federation spot.
Iona Prep (Gaels)
Outlook: Three seniors are gone from last year's 7th-place varsity along with top guy Daniel Falero, and a lot of work will be needed to make up the distance to a Federation spot in 6th place. But the Gaels actually have a decent amount of returners this year in comparison to some of the teams they will be competing against, and Tommy Flynn and Anthony Bravo should provide them with a decent tandem at the top.
St. Joseph by the Sea (Vikings)
Outlook: On the one hand, the Vikings have almost everyone back, but on the other it was a 10th-place squad that included freshmen at the last four spots. With 6th place finisher Dylan Doskocil and fellow senior Joey Wilson on the lead for SJbtS, the team should be in good hands, and the back of the lineup should see huge advances this year as sophomore year arrives.
St. Francis - Buffalo (Red Raiders)
Outlook: The Red Raiders took a repeat MMAA title 2021, and this year they look well set for a threepeat. Two of the top 3 guys are gone from last year including champ Joseph Pivarunas, but enough of the squad behind 3rd-place finisher Eric Lanning is back to keep St. Francis on top.
Fordham Prep (Rams)
Outlook:
The Rams won their first CHSSA title in 62 years in 2021, and Myles Hogan won the team's 11th individual title as he became their first guy to repeat. With the house cleaned out by the graduation of the top six guys who also included Liam Dennehy, Matthew Febles, Dean Mayo, Darren Croke, and Lucas Moran behind Hogan, the Rams will be looking at an extreme rebuilding year with a squad that at least in preseason looks to have six seniors in the top six spots.
St. Joseph Collegiate (Marauders)
Outlook: The Marauders will be looking for their first title in four years with a squad that will need some filling out behind junior leader Sam Tomm, who was 5th in the MMAA last year, after the loss of 2021 top guy Jack Occhipinti.
