Outlook: The Green Dragons have moved back down to Class B where they won a state championship in 2018, and everything looks much easier now, especially with Feds champ Karrie Baloga looking at what could be one of those 80-90 second wins at states. But Cornwall needs to fill out a team that lost three of its top 4 behind their frontrunner, and Baloga will also have some expanded goals in her senior season.

Pearl River (Pirates)

States Teams: 1979 (A-3rd), 1980 (B-1st), 1981 (B-1st), 1982 (B-1st), 1983 (B-1st), 1984 (B-2nd), 1985 (B-2nd), 1986 (B-3rd), 1987 (B-2nd), 1988 (B-1st), 1989 (B-1st), 1990 (B-2nd), 1991 (B-7th), 1992 (C-2nd), 1993 (C-2nd), 1994 (B-1st), 1995 (B-3rd), 1996 (B-2nd), 1997 (B-2nd), 1998 (B-2nd), 1999 (C-1st), 2000 (C-2nd), 2001 (C-2nd), 2002 (C-3rd), 2003 (B-4th), 2004 (B-3rd), 2005 (B-4th), 2006 (B-3rd), 2007 (B-3rd), 2008 (B-2nd), 2009 (B-4th), 2010 (B-2nd), 2011 (B-5th), 2013 (B-2nd), 2014 (B-5th), 2019 (B-2nd), 2021 (B-3rd)

Outlook: The Pirates are in a similar transitional stage as Cornwall after losing three members of the varsity including longtime leader Una Boylan. But they have decent enough depth behind frontrunner Madyson Moroney to make a strong bid for a 9th state championship and first since 1999.

South Side (Cyclones)

States Teams: 2000 (B-9th), 2002 (B-10th), 2017 (B-9th), 2018 (B-7th), 2021 (B-5th)

Outlook: South Side should get the repeat in S8-B and it has the balance behind senior leader Cameron Coletti to challenge for a States title. The big issue is the depth, as no team can compete well with only five relatively strong runners.

Honeoye Falls-Lima (Cougars)

States Teams:  1995 (B-6th), 1997 (B-5th), 1998 (B-1st), 1999 (B-1st), 2000 (B-1st), 2001 (B-1st), 2002 (B-1st), 2003 (B-1st), 2004 (B-1st), 2005 (B-2nd), 2006 (B-2nd), 2007 (B-2nd), 2008 (B-4th), 2009 (B-2nd), 2011 (B-3rd), 2012 (B-8th), 2015 (B-6th), (2021, B-2nd)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Wendy Bensley (1990, B-10th), Amber Dodzweit (1998, B-10th) (1999, B-8th), Lynn Kubeja (2002, B-2nd) (2003, B-4th), Liz Deir (2003, B-4th) (2004, B-2nd) (2005, B-1st) (2006, B-1st), Audrey Mangan (2004, B-6th) (2005, B-4th), Meg Van Houton (2006, B-6th) (2007, B-6th), Amanda Moreland (2009, B-4th), Hannah Cole (2011, B-5th)

Outlook: Honeoye Falls-Lima won seven straight Class B titles from 1998 to 2004, and it has a decent shot at an eighth title if it can develop some more strength at the back. 2021 lead runner Ann Brennan graduated, so senior Alia Spaker and junior Paige Kidd will take over the helm of a team that will be trying to fend off Pittsford Mendon and get a repeat S5-A title.

Mohonasen (Warriors)

States Teams:
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers):  Kate Sherman (2019, B-7th), Rachel Miller (2021, B-6th)

Outlook: Mohonasen has never been to States, but this year with the top 5 back and sectional champ Rachel Miller on the lead, the Warriors are slightly favored in S2-B in what could be a very tight five-way battle for the title.

Scotia-Glenville (Tartans)

States Teams: 2009 (B-5th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Jillian King (2004, A-2nd) (2006, A-1st) (2007, A-3rd), Caroline King (2004, A-6th) (2005, A-4th) (2006, A-6th), Danielle Schaub (2004, A-8th)

Outlook: The Tartans are strongly in the hunt for a second sectional title and first in 13 years. States finalist Stephanie James leads a team that could develop the most depth in the five-way battle in S2-B.

Pittsford Mendon (Vikings)

States Teams: 2005 (A-4th), 2006 (A-4th), 2007 (A-2nd), 2008 (A-3rd), 2009 (A-2nd), 2013 (B-7th), 2014 (B-6th) 2017 B-5th), 2018 (B-5th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers): Linda Gryski (1987, A-7th), Shaylyn Tuite (2006, A-7th) (2007, A-6th) (2008, A-7th) (2009, A-4th) (2010, A-3rd), Mary Barger (2014, B-10th)

Outlook: There are a lot of questions about the lineup for the 2022 Vikings team, but young States finalists Sarah Hanfland and Isabella Gallant should keep them in the running for a S5-B title.

Sayville (Golden Flashes)

States Teams: 1991 (B-9th), 2005 (A-2nd), 2006 (A-3rd), 2021 (B-7th)
States Individuals (Top 10 finishers):  Jill Mostroianni (1995, B-6th) (1996, B-3rd) (1997, B-1st) (1998, B-1st) (1999, B-3rd), Caitlin Brady (2000, B-10th) (2002, B-7th), Kristy Longman (2003, B-2nd) (2004, A-10th) (2005, A-1st)

Outlook: The Golden Flashes got their first sectional title in 15 years in 2021, and a balanced squad behind frontrunner Mullane Baumiller should keep Sayville in the role of the favorite in 2022.
