2022 All Long Island Outdoor Track And Field Team Announced

Plainview, NY - Representatives from the Nassau and Suffolk County Track Coaches Associations, NSCHSSA, and USATF Long Island have come together to select the All-Long Island athletes for the 2022 outdoor track and field season. Performances from throughout the season were analyzed, discussed, and debated with an emphasis placed on achievements attained in this season's championship meets.

Three athletes were selected for each individual running and field event to comprise 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team All-Long Island. Athletes who could have qualified for selections in multiple events were assigned one selection in their most outstanding event. The committee has additionally awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team All-Long Island selections in the 4x100, 4x400, 4x800, and several invitational relay performances that were considered exceptional from this season.

The 2022 Outdoor Track and Field season presented us with numerous outstanding accomplishments and performances, with two athletes standing out amongst their peers. That being stated, the committee is honored in selecting Nicholas Lourenco (St. Anthony's HS) and Alexandra Kelly (Rocky Point HS) as the Most Outstanding Athletes of the Season.

Nicholas Lourenco's accomplishments from this season surpass what most athletes accumulate in a career. His 17-0 clearance in the pole vault at the Vault Factory Independence Day Meet ranks as the 2nd best jump in New York State History. Lourenco's vaulting skills also launched him to All-American status (New Balance Outdoor Nationals), along with the NY State Championship and Meet Record in the event.

Alexandra Kelly was equally as dominant in her specialty, the triple jump, where she established a new State Record this season. Kelly's jump of 42-5 at the New York State Championship earned her the individual title and eclipsed the previous record by one inch. Then, at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals, she shattered that mark with a windy 43-0 ¼, winning the National Championship. Kelly also had an astounding season in the long jump where she finished 2nd at the State Championships and possessed a season best of 19-6 ¼ (NY #2).

On the sprints side, the committee recognizes a pair of underclassmen in Jermaine Thompson (Connetquot HS) and Ashley Fulton (Elmont HS) as the performers of the season. Thompson's performance of 21.22 at the New York State Championship earned him the individual state title and set a new Suffolk County record. He was also the runner-up at the State Meet in the 100 at 10.63. Fulton, a sophomore, earned a pair of state championships in the 100 (11.99) and 200 (24.23). Her 200 time was the fastest of anyone in NY State this season.

Within the distance running realm, the committee selected Colin Funk (Port Washington HS) and Zariel Macchia (William Floyd HS) as the best of Long Island this season. Funk accomplished a trio of All State honors in the 800 (1:54.78), 1600 (4:14.27), and as the anchor of Port Washington's 4x800. Additionally, his performance in the distance events assisted his team to the Nassau County Team Championship. Macchia continued to showcase herself as one of the most versatile athletes in the state. Her performances of 800 (2:11.02), 1500 (4:31.85), and 3000 (9:45.52) all ranked NY Top 10 for the season and in a fourth event, the 2000 steeple chase, she had the 11th fastest time.

Finally, in the field events, we honor Ryan John (Valley Stream North) and Desiree Pagan (Islip High School) as the top performers from the outdoor campaign. John was the National Runner-Up at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals launching himself 50-1 ¼ in the triple jump, an event he was the NY State Champion in as well. He also added an individual state championship in the long jump, with his personal bests (23-11 and 50-1 ¼) being the top leaps in New York this season. Pagan earned a state title of her own in the discus (132-10) and bettered that mark finishing 7th at the New Balance Nationals (140-3). That mark was the top discus toss in NY State, while her hammer throw of 134-11 ranked NY #2.

In conclusion, the committee selected one male and female team from each of the three Long Island designations as the best team of the season. We congratulate are male selections of Valley Stream North (Nassau), Connetquot (Suffolk), and St. Anthony's (NSCHSSA) as the programs of the year, along with our female honorees of Port Washington (Nassau), North Babylon (Suffolk), and St. Anthony's (NSCHSSA).

The Long Island Track and Field Coaches Association would like to congratulate each of our All-Long Island athletes on their memorable and successful outdoor track and field seasons. Future All Long Island selections for track and field will be made annually after the conclusion of each season.
