Myles Hogan, Zariel Macchia Post Big Mile Times At Icahn

It was a quick meet between the thunderstorms on Friday Night, but the Track Night NYC by Tracksmith provided a huge stage for several High School athletes to take a big step forward. For New York, three storylines emerged.

Myles Hogan Moves To #5 All-Time

The legend of Myles Hogan (Fordham Prep) only deepens this Season, as he clocked a 4:05.69 for silver at the Trials of Miles event. That mark matched his 1600m split at Penn Relays, meaning he is continuing to improve, with the mile time eligible for All-Time ranking. It's the fastest time since Mikey Brannigan (Northport) ran 4:03.18 at Prefontaine in 2015. For a HS only race, it's the fastest since Nick Ryan (Fayetteville-Manlius) won the 2012 State Meet as a Junior. Hogan now joins Brannigan as the only athlete to have broken 4:06.5 for the Mile since 1983. Of the four athletes ahead of Hogan on the All-Time lists, three of them hail from the Catholic High School Association. Not insignificantly, hogan also breaks his school record set by Conor Lundy in 2016 at 4:07.83.

Zariel Macchia Makes Waves As A Frosh

Freshman sensation Zariel Macchia (William Floyd) strikes again, grabbing second place in a field filled with upperclassmen. Her 4:47.47 is a personal best, surpassing her 4:48 from Indoors. The mark pushes her to NY #11 All-Time, just above Sammy Watson (Rush-Henrietta). It's also the second best time by an from Long Island, as Kelsey Margey spent two years in Suffolk County before moving to Friends Academy. Margey ran 4:43.91 as a sophomore, the current Section 11 and LI Record. Meanwhile, Macchia is now the fastest freshman in the Mile, the 3000m, and the Steeplechase. Her time also converts to 4:26.17, which would lead the State in the 1500m as well.

Michael Rodriguez-King Inches Forward as State Leader

All eyes were set on the seeded sections of the 800m (and rightfully so, as we saw #2 All-Time for both Boys and Girls). However, in the B-Section, Michael Rodriguez-King (Susan Wagner) dipped under his State Leader at Loucks to bring the new NY #1 time to 1:52.36. The mark is an outright personal best for King, now over two seconds faster than the rest of the State.
