SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore runner Tito Medrano became Syracuse's 15th All-American in school history, and first in nearly three decades, after his performance at the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Monday, November 23. Medrano finished 39th overall and 34th on the team in the 10-kilometer race with a time of 30:20.7. He led the Orange to a 14th place finish, its highest since 1959.

To be eligible, each runner must finish in the top 40 at the NCAA Championship. Former Orange cross country runner Jim O'Connell was SU's last All-American, who earned the honor in 1982.

From the beginning, Medrano played a key role in the success of this year's cross country squad. The men's team surprised the nation when they went from being unranked to first-place at the annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational on October 3, where the Orange beat out two top 10 teams. Medrano led the way, finishing third overall (23:56), powering Syracuse to a No. 11 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association ranking – its highest in program history.

The Orange continued its quest for national prominence when it competed in the BIG EAST Championship on October 31. Medrano was the 12th runner (25:12) to cross the finish line as the Orange claimed the conference title for the first time. Just two weeks later, Syracuse made history again when it took home the Northeast Region title with the help of Medrano, who finished 51st (32:55).
