TERRE HAUTE, Ind.
– Syracuse cross country built on its history-filled season at the 2009 NCAA Championship on Monday, November 23. The Orange women cracked the top 20 for the first time in program history, while the men earned 14th in its first visit to Nationals in 35 years. In only its second trip to the championship, the women finished 18th, improving on last year's 28th place finish.

Sophomore Tito Medrano earned All-America status after finishing 39th with a time of 30:20.5. The USTFCCCA Northeast Region Athlete of the Year, Katie Hursey, continued to build her impressive resume with a team-best 80th place finish (21:10.5.). Hursey became SU's first individual women's champion at the Northeast Regional on November 14, while also posting the team's best time in four out of five races this season.

Prior to the NCAA Championship, the men and women experienced their most successful season to date. Under the leadership of the USTFCCCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year Chris Fox, the Orange went from being unknown to one of the most prestigious programs in the nation. The men went from being unranked in the national polls, to the No. 11 team after beating out two top 10 teams at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on October 3. The men continued its quest for national prominence when it was crowned the BIG EAST Championship for the first time on October 31. The women did not go unnoticed either, as they achieved a No. 10 ranking in week four – its highest in program history. Both teams continued their success and made history at the Northeast Region, where they claimed Syracuse's first regional title.
