Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Vionca Murray (Rosedale, N.Y.) and sophomore Pat Dupont (Fairport, N.Y.) have been named the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of November, 23, 2009.
Murray is a senior forward on the women's basketball team. She leads the team in field-goal percentage (.647) behind 11-of-17 shooting, while averaging 8.5 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game. She recorded eight points and pulled down five boards in Syracuse's 87-74 win against Binghamton over the weekend.
Murray is an accounting major in the Whitman School of Management and will travel with her teammates to Cancun, Mexico to compete in the Cancun Thanksgiving Classic. The Orange will play Old Dominion on Thanksgiving Day at 8:15 p.m., followed by a contest against Butler on Friday, November 27 at 8:15 p.m.
Dupont is a sophomore runner on the ninth-ranked Syracuse cross country team. After finishing with a team-best time of 31:09, he helped the Orange men capture their first NCAA Northeast Regional title in program history. He also led his team to its first conference title when he finished fourth overall (24:51) at the 2009 BIG EAST Championship. His individual success helped the Orange qualify for NCAA Nationals for the first time in 35 years.
Dupont is a music composition major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. He will compete in the NCAA Championship on Monday, November 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
