PSAL, AIS, CHSAA, and MMAA Championships Wrap-up

Between November 7th Marathon Sunday and the following Saturday, the three NYC-area leagues and the MMAA Buffalo area league held their championships. The team results ranged from easy wins to one tie-breaker.

CHSAA Championships

Unlike what occurred in past years with seismic shockers rippling through the CHSAA results, this year there weren't really any huge surprises. The well-behaved boys' squads finished in the exact 1st through 7th projected places, and Fordham Prep rebounded from some disappointments the last two years to claim its first title in 62 years and third overall by a close 43-49 score over Xavier. The Rams got a sweep of the titles as Myles Hogan repeated his win from last year to give FP its fourth individual crown in seven years joining Niall Sullivan in 2019 and Conor Lundy in 2015.

The girls were a little more disorderly from their projected order, but Saint Anthony's repeated comfortably as expected, Sacred Heart came up for 2nd, St. Francis Prep captured 3rd after not fielding a team at the championship last year during the heightened pandemic times, and Notre Dame - Manhattan beat out its Staten Island namesake NDA by 1 point who beat their SI rival St. Joseph Hill also by 1 point. NDA took three of the top four spots while still finishing back in 6th, and the Gators were led by Lola Dinneen's 9-second win over St. Joseph Hill's Ava Gumb. 2020 runner-up Dinneen got the trophy that her high-flying older sister Sierra never quite managed to capture despite four top-4 finishes from 2016 to 2019.
