Following Week of Saturday, October 9th
The big action occurred at the Manhattan Invitational in Van Cortlandt Park as Bethlehem edged the top ranked team in New Jersey to nail down its claim as the 3rd best team in the Empire State. Corning, Cornwall, and Shaker placed 3rd through 5th to set up a good chunk of the top 10 spots in the state. Pearl River and Bronxville battled to a close finish in the Manhattan C race to widen their leads at the top of Class B and Class C respectively.
For many of the teams, especially upstate, last week served as low-key recovery from the heated McQuaid action and the speed ratings were of limited size and of limited use for rankings purposes. One major area of note was Fayetteville-Manlius's explosive performance in what was something of a team exercise in the Chittenango Twilight - 1 race, a result that may have some big import in a likely future showdown with Saratoga at States.
Many teams will taking a breather after the last two torrid weekends of action, but the Burnt Hills, Section 1 Coaches, NYC Carnival, Marathon, Nassau Coaches, Weedsport, Town of Amherst, and John Bernard Adirondack meets will provide plenty of highlights this week.
