It's been a year of strong Pole Vaulting in New York State, as both the Boys Overall State Record and the Girls D2 State Record went down, and the party is only just beginning. With the event being record eligible all the way through August, several opportunities to improve those Season Bests exist deep into the Summer, and the first major meet is on the horizon.
Operating out of the Hudson Valley Flying Circus based out of Warwick, the Summer Festival Pole Vault Meet will take place on July 9-10. With a true circus like experience, there will be food trucks, music, games and more over the two day stint.
The HVFC club saw two significant marks come from their personnel this year. Louis Martinez (Wallkill) set the overall boys State Record at 16-9, taking over the title from a prior Barn member, Jordan Yamoah (Arlington). Then there was Neil Howard (Taconic Hills), who jumped multiple times at the barn over the Winter, who came away with the Freshman State Record at 14-8 late in the Spring Season.
The Summer Festival kicks off what looks to be a return to form for Pole Vaulting meets in New York. Other popular attractions include the Rockback Beach Vault in the Rochester Area, as well as several opportunities in the neighboring states. We'll be sure to keep track of all the action as it unfolds over the next few months.
