PIAA State Champs Will Be Two-Day Meet, Limited Qualifiers

The PIAA State Championships will be a two-day meet this year, taking place on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7, the PIAA announced on Wednesday. There will also be reduced fields in all six state meet races.

The Class A girls and boys races will occur on Friday, with the Class AA and Class AAA girls and boys races happening on Saturday. Normally a one-day meet, the PIAA made these changes in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to minimize the amount of people at Hershey's Parkview Course at one time.

Additionally, the PIAA is limiting the amount of qualifiers for the state meet. Only one team and five individuals (not on a qualified team) will qualify for states from each district or region per classification, regardless of the size of each district or region.

That means that the Class A race will feature 11 teams with 55 individuals, the Class AA race will feature 11 teams with 55 individuals, and the Class AAA race will feature 8 teams with 40 individuals. It will be considerably smaller fields across the board.

The race start times have not yet been announced.
