Breaking national records since he was nine years old, Jonathan Simms has proven to be an athlete to watch at the AAU Junior Olympic Games. To date, Simms has broken six national records at this historic meet. He won his fourth national title in 2018 in the 800m.

As to be expected with his endurance and experience in 2019, Simms cut in at the orange cones in the lead. With his long strides, the athlete from Plano, Texas ran his first 200m in about 27 seconds and was about three seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

His first lap was completed in 1:00.13. With 250m let in this race, Simms was ahead of the pack by almost 40m. Simms kept opening his stride, which looked effortless, as he approached the finish line. The crowd cheered him down the home stretch. With his dip at the line, he stopped the clock at 2:11.58, eight seconds ahead of second place.
