SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Rebekah MacKay (Whitinsville, Mass.) and senior Tom Perevegyencev (Moscow, Russia) have been named Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of September 28, 2009.
MacKay is a junior runner on the Syracuse cross country team. She placed first at the Colgate Invitational on Sept. 19 with a time of 21:43. She competed in last year's NCAA Championships, where she finished with a time of 22:04.
MacKay, an illustration major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, will join the rest of the cross country team when it travels to Madison, Wisc. for the Wisconsin Inter-Regional on Sat., Oct. 3.
Perevegyencev is a senior forward on the men's soccer team. He has started every game for the Orange this season and is tied for the team lead in goals (3). He also tallied one assist in the season opener against Binghamton. In 2008, he tied for the SU lead in goals scored (6), and third on the team in points (12). Perevegyencev ranks ninth at Syracuse in career goals per game (0.31).
Perevegyencev is an economics major in the College of Arts and Sciences. He will travel with the men's soccer team to face conference rival Rutgers on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
