Alissa Braxton Nabs Two More Triple Jump State Records

The overall state record holder in the triple jump, Alissa Braxton (Commack), pushed out her lifetime best earlier this week. At the Section 11 State Qualifier, the University of Florida Bound senior launched a mark of 41-10 on her first jump of the finals.

As a junior, Braxton jumped 41-9.75 to break both the New York junior, and overall state record in the jump at Ocean Breeze. Now a senior, Braxton's mark improves that overall state record, while also breaking the senior state record, held by Michelle Hickman (Randolph, NYC), which was set at 41-7.75 in 1996.

Braxton's record took longer to certify than a typical mark would. Consideration on the facilities were taken into account, more on which will be addressed in a follow up article (linked here later today.) However, the mark will stand as the overall state record. This also gives Braxton the top two marks in state history in the event.

The mark improves Braxton's US No. 2 in the event.  Only Morgan Smalls (Panther Creek, NC) has jumped further, with a 42-10 in late January. Braxton still has US No. 3 in-state to contend with, so we expect a need for another personal best to secure a state title.
