Starliper Throws Down 4:37 Mile At Millrose

Marlee Starliper further cemented her legacy with a dazzling performance at the Millrose Games, with the senior running a time of 4:37.76 to win the Junior Girls' Mile in record-setting fashion.

Starliper successfully defended her Millrose title, besting a strong field to run away with the win by over six seconds over second place. The time handily took down Starliper own Millrose Games record of 4:41.66 set last year. It also breaks the Pennsylvania indoor mile state record of 4:39.05, which Taryn Parks set at New Balance Nationals Indoor.

The Northern senior and NC State recruit took the lead on the second lap and gradually extended her lead, before throwing down the hammer in the closing laps to run to the victory. Her 4:37.76 is the fourth fastest indoor time in high school history.

"I definitley wanted to PR," Starliper said. "I didn't have super set expectations -- just go out there and just win, and I just can't believe how it turned out."

Saturday's field included some entries like Maryland's Juliette Whitaker, who entered the meet at US No. 1. She placed second in 4:43.89. Greencastle-Antrim's Taryn Parks was third in 4:44.98, almost five seconds faster than her time from two weeks ago at the New Balance Grand Prix. Parks moves up to US No. 3.

Next up for Starliper is a 3K at Boston University's Valentine Invitational on Friday night where she will face off against some pros and collegians. She will chase her own state record of 9:20.91 and possibly more.
