Monique Hardy Hits State Record Throw

One legal throw.  That's all it took for Monique Hardy to put her name atop the record books.

Attending the Millrose Games, for a Thursday edition that featured the Weight Throw and Pole Vault for High Schools, Senior Monique Hardy (Webster Thomas) put out the longest toss in the Weight Throw in State History.  After a foul on her first attempt, Hardy launched the implement for a mark of 20.40 meters, converted to 66-11.25 for the New Record.  After a lesser attempt, and another foul in the finals, Hardy passed the final three throws.

Hardy is now the second furthest Weight Thrower in the Nation's History at the Prep Level.  Shelby Ashe (St. Pius X Catholic, GA) set the National Record in 2011, at 68-2.5.  Hardy surpassed Ashe's second and third best throws in grabbing her record.

The mark isn't a surprise, as Hardy is the reigning National Champion, where she set the Junior State Record at 64-7.25.  New Balance Indoor Nationals was also where the former State Record of 65-5 was set by Jillian Shippee (Shenendehowa) in 2017.  The fact that Hardy set her record so early in the season proves there might be more room for improvement.

MileSplit has an upcoming Workout Wednesday scheduled for release with Hardy.  Stay tuned.
