It was a big weekend in the College Ranks, and for one high school, especially so in one event. Beacon High School, a mid-sized Class B school in New York, saw two of their Alumni hit personal bests this weekend, resulting in a combined 51-6.5 feet this weekend.
Rayvon Grey is the reigning Indoor State Record Holder for the Long Jump, and has only gotten better in College. Last year, he became the Indoor NCAA Champ when he leapt 26-1.5 in Birmingham, Alabama. It was short of his 26-5.25 best at the time, but got the job done. With his jump on Saturday, he improved that best to a 26-6.5 performance, winning the competition. That jump is a new 2020 NCAA Lead, and World #2. It is the 5th longest jump in LSU School History.
A little bit north at the New England Champs was Terrel Davis. A fellow 2016 Graduate of Beacon, Davis was a strong jumper in his own right in HS, capturing a State Title Indoors his senior year after Grey fouled out. Davis was a 24-0 Long Jumper in High School, but during his Sophomore year of College, reached as high as 24-11.5 Outdoors. While he has been consistently in the low 24-0's since then, it was a big jump this past weekend to hit 25-0, to win the New England Championship in a new Personal Best. It was his longest jump of the year by over 6-inches.
Davis wasn't alone as the only Beacon Alum at the New England Champs. 2016 teammate David Adams won the 60H in 8.02, shy of his best from early January in 7.92.
