McDermotts launch website, Kevin McDermott Trust

Former Chaminade star Kevin McDermott, who was severely injured in a pool accident in July, now has a vehicle for you to help.  The McDermott family has created the Kevin McDermott Irrevocable Trust and launched a website – www.KevinMcDermott.org.

“I’ve been working on setting up fundraisers to help pay with all the costs that are quickly adding up,” said McDermott’s brother, Sean, in an email posted to the LetsRun.com message board. “The running world as we know is a tight-knit community.”

Kevin McDermott was a national champion steeplechaser in high school and one of the top distance runners at Duke University, where he graduated last May. In July, at a party in Hampton Bays in Long Island, McDermott dove into a pool, hit his head on the bottom and suffered a C5 cervial spinal cord injury which instantly paralyzed him from the neck down. He spent two weeks at Stony Brook University Hospital and is currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains.

The website allows for donations to help McDermott with the cost of piling medical fees. There will also be a charity golf outing in his honor called “Caring for Kevin” Oct. 26 at Cherry Valley Country Club.

More information about The Kevin McDermott Trust and “Caring for Kevin” can be found on the website, www.KevinMcDermott.org.
