Two Section Three Records In One Weekend & A Possible Sweep

Things have been heating up in Central New York, and it's not just the unseasonable weather.  Big performances are starting to roll in, and the rest of the State is starting to notice.  Check out what went down this weekend.

High Flying At Utica

W. Slater Costantine (Sauquoit Valley) came into the season with strong potential.  After a Spring Season deferred, he opened his Senior Year matching his personal best.  In the new year, he's twice pushed past that mark to best, then reset his own Section 3 Record.  On January 3rd, he cleared 15-8, to better the standard set by Joe Weaver (Central Square) set in 2018.  Then, one week later and back at Utica, he sailed past that mark once again.  Now, he cleared 16-feet even, making him the new State Leader in the event. He currently stands as US #6 in the Event, as well as being the 10th highest vaulter in State History.

New York has only seen 7 other athletes clear the 16-foot barrier in the last decade, putting Costantine in high company.

Inaugural Meet Brings A Fast Time On A New Track

Nazareth College just put in a brand new track facility, and it didn't take long for the Facility Records to tighten.  Running at the first ever Jack Reed Showcase, Brooke Rauber (Tully) ran to a new Section 3 Record in the 1500m.  Winning by twelve seconds, Rauber ran to a US #2 mark of 4:28.79, bettering the 4:29.10 set by Sophie Ryan (FM) back in 2017.  The mark also stands as the fourth best time by an athlete in their Junior Year.

Rauber is also currently NY #2 in the 3000m, and NY #3 in the 1000m.

Two High Jump State Leaders Too

The High Jump event has long been dominated by Long Island Schools, specifically Section 11, but two Syracuse stars are looking to pull a Section 3 sweep at the State Meet.

Kwamere White (Henninger) is the Spring State Meet Champ, and has only improved in his Senior Year.  He's bumped up his best clearance to 6-9 this Indoor Season, good for NY #1, and US # 1 as well.  His clearance is just shy of the Top 25 All-Time list for NY, but is the highest clearance by a New Yorkers since 2018. White is the third highest jumper from Sec. 3 in our database with his mark.

Likewise, Amina Sinclair (Liverpool) put together a NY #1 jump over the weekend, clearing 5-6 for the win.  She had cleared the height twice before Outdoors, but has since moved the bar up Indoors.  She shares the State Lead with the reigning State Champion, but also stands tied (with six other previous athletes) as the 3rd highest jumper from Section 3 in our database.
