Powell, Kingsway, Union Catholic Highlight Millrose Trials

The NYRR Millrose Games Trials kicked off at the Armory in NY on Wednesday night with some great racing and New Jersey brought the highlights winning eight events and launching up the national rankings in the process. Check out the major highlights below.  

New Jersey Highlights

Boys Mile Invite | Shaw Powell of CBA raced to a 4:23.27 to win by almost 3 seconds and earns his ticket to Millrose. The star senior closed this indoor PR run in a 2:01! This is the second straight year NJ has won the event and the third time in the past four years, Powell's past teammate Tim McInerney won in 2019 and in 2017 Ocean Twp's Elliot Gindi had the honor. Also finishing strong in this year's race was North Hunterdon's Gavin Richards in seventh at 4:28.33. 

Girls Mile Invite | Against some tough competition in NY's Sarah Trainor, Charlotte Bednar of the Lawrenceville School rocked her second sub-5 mile of the season for second place both girls officially clocked at 4:58.17 and 4:58.91 respectively for first and second. Ridgewood's Camryn Wennersten finished third for the second straight year and ran 5:00.40. NJ's Victoria Vanriele (5:06.51), Sarah Naticchia (5:08.38), and Julianne Kopec (5:10.56), Allison Colflesh (5:15.87) all finished 5-6-7-10 as well. 

Boys 4x800m Invite | The Kingsway boys roared to a winning time of 7:55.30, taking over the state lead by 18 seconds and the US lead by 11! Ethan Bentley, 2:03, Jeffrey Heineman, 1:58, Kyle Rakitis, 1:59, and an anchor time of 1:54.21 that would take the individual state lead in the 800m by Stone Caraccio. Caraccio is already ranked US#5 this season with a 4:18.25 from the Hispanic Games last weekend. 

Girls 4x800m Invite | Union Catholic dropped 20 seconds off the NJ state lead and moved up to US#1 with their winning 9:21.86, finishing around nine seconds ahead of second place North Rockland. Kingsway ran to third at 9:35.90. For UC their splits ran as follows: Ashleigh Patterson, 2:22.32, Morgan Jackson, 2:19.69, Zamira Ysaac, 2:20.69, and Morgan Williams, 2:19.14.

Boys 4x400m Private School | St. Benedict's Prep ran a NJ#1 US#2 3:22.82 to win over Paul VI timed at 3:28.33 NJ#5. St. Benedict's squad included Justis Worrell, Malachi Little, Saveyon Blake and Malique Jackson.

Boys 4x400m Suburban | Jackson Memorial improved their season best down to a 3:25.66 NJ#4 (Zachary Novak 51.16, Nicholas Mollica 51.21, Noah Coakley 52.66, Jake McKown 50.63), Union HS second at 3:27.87, Kingsway fourth 3:29.12, and East Orange Campus fifth 3:29.94. 

Girls 4x400m Private School | Union Catholic's relay game is so strong, another NJ#1 and US#3 time of 3:56.34, anchored by Chidumga Nkulume at 56.31! Paul VI also running really strong in second at 3:58.54 for NJ#2. 

Girls 4x400m Suburban | Winslow Township girls posted a 4:00.25 NJ#3 time to defeat 29 schools in the suburban division. Woodbridge third at 4:05.43, Ramapo fourth 4:06.42, Rancocas Valley sixth 4:07.05. 

Boys 55m Dash | Al-Shadee Salaam of East Orange Campus finished third in finals running 6.55 (6.55p), North Hunterdon's Trifol Headman fourth at 6.67 and Rancocas Valley's Miekel House fifth 6.67. 

Girls 55m Dash | Janeya Hammond of Winslow Twp won finals running 7.23 (7.29p), good to match NJ#2 this season. Joy Enaohwo of Union HS also running strong in second at 7.29 (7.33p).
