Summary: Last year it was a four-way tussle between four teams, and Kellenberg came out the winner. This year was supposed to lead to a head-to-head battle between Notre Dame, frequent winner in recent years, and Sacred Heart, a team looking for its first title in 14 years.
From early developments, it appeared that the ND Gators were going to cruise to a fifth CHSAA title in six years if it could firm up the back line. While winning the NY-BQ-CHSAA title in dominating fashion, Notre Dame proved itself up among the top 3 teams in NY Class B and did indeed firm up the 5th spot behind Sierra Dinneen, Alyssia Brown, Giavanna Comerford and Lola Dinneen. Sacred Heart meanwhile was sorely missing its #2 runner from last year and early results were not as robust as expected. Then the monsoon of an unrated NSCHSAA was held, and Sacred Heart ran far ahead of a strong Saint Anthony's squad, and the season's long top 2 of Maggie Maier and Marie Naudus was rejoined by last year's CHSAA runner-up Shannon Thieke, who appears to have reworked her way back towards the top. Kelly Parker's St. Anthony's team can also not be excluded, as like Kellenberg in 2018, the Friars can take advantage of any off days by the favorites.
So yes, we can throw out the numbers for this one, mainly because they're not fully available, and we'll just say that this race will be a fun one to watch. Two weeks worth of work since the Sectionals may have changed the CHSAA landscape.
