Summary:  You can toss aside all the numbers, when the S9-A teams get together because there is always a huge amount of variance for the runners at Sectionals compared to previous Bear Mountain performances at OCIAA or other meets. Last year's race was the highlighter of the state's Sectional events as Warwick Valley and Washingtonville dueled place by place to a 54-54 tie before the Wildcats and champ runner Behailu Bekele-Arcuri claimed the title on a 28th to 29th place tiebreaker differential. Monroe-Woodbury topped Warwick Valley by 15 at OCIAA, but last year the Wildcats finished way back at OCIAA and then took the Sectional championship. This year Warwick Valley has the speed rating edge over the Crusaders by a smidgen, but its compression number is a big 29 to the Monroe-Woodbury pack's 13. If those number do stay the same at S9-A, the Crusaders will win. The virtual score for the S9-A has it at:
*** Monroe-Woodbury 54, Warwick Valley 66, Washingtonville 81, Cornwall 103
So MW is the projected winner, but the margin is small, and the Crusaders will need a big effort to knock off the reigning champ. Washingtonville and 2018 Class B champ Cornwall are also lurking not too far back. The last time anyone but thrice-champ Bekele-Arcuri won an S9-A individual title for the guys, self-tying shoes had not even been invented, so we're going way, way back, to 2015 when the Wildcats' Matt Adolph was the winner and Bekele-Arcuri finished 3rd for Minisink Valley.

Summary:  Mount Academy lost the S9-B battle with Corrnwall last year by 54-62, marking the only time that the Eagles were not at States since the program's inception in 2012 when a guy named Leroy Meier was one of the top two for the state champs, their first of three titles. This year with Cornwall gone up to Class A, Mount is the decided favorite with a 3rd ranked Class B team that not only has good speed ratings behind frontrunner Travis Meier, but also has an outstanding pack compression number of 10. Goshen has been making a move to contend with New Paltz for 2nd with Stephen Perillo-Sullivan back in the lineup, and he is expected to battle with Monticello's Steve Bello for the individual title. The virtual score here is at:
*** Mount 39, Goshen 70, New Paltz 74

2

141.6

Summary:   James O'Neill won the S9-C easily last year but then got hit hard by graduation with 1st and 3rd place finishers Tony Njoga and Carl Tyce moving on. This year's numbers are a little ways back for the Raiders, but with Harry Marson on the lead as the expected champ here, O'Neill should have enough to hold off an emerging Tri-Valley team. Virtual projections show the two teams as deadlocked through the first four places, but O'Neill is ahead after five spots by 37-48. Marson was 7th last year but is far ahead of the pack in 2019.

2

Eldred

75

Dunker, McNeil, Reed
Summary:  2018 S9-D winner Coleman would be the favorite if they run with guys who were not seniors last year, but they do not appear to have a team. Last year's 3rd place team Livingston Manor also does not appear to have a full squad. Too many unknowns here to really say anything except that SS Seward did a little better than Eldred in the OCIAA and that the two teams may be having a dual meet at Sectionals.
