This weekend, VVS gave their first look at the new layout for their Cross Country course, one utilized by Section 3 this year for their Sectional Championships, and next year for their State Meet Course.  While the course may or may not be finalized, we were curious to see how times were stacking up to previous renditions.

In recent years, there were three distinct layouts.  The 2011 State Meet Course layout included an inner loop near the water tower.  The 2017 meet course avoided that portion of the course, as it proved to be one of the muddiest Sections at that State Meet.  And 2019 re-routed the start and finish approach.

Below are our findings.

Notes: It was difficult to find a true measure of the course in 2011.  The times below were all taken from the VVS Invite.  In 2011, that meet also served as the "Pre-State Invitational," meaning many more out-of-Section teams were in attendance, skewing the data.  At Sectionals, limited to just Section 3 teams, athletes had a full seasons' wo...
