Orange Runners Open Season at Harry Lang Invitational

9/4/2009 2:21:16 PM | Cross Country

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Syracuse University cross country teams open the 2009 season this Saturday, September 5 at the Harry Lang Invitational. The men will run in a 6k and 4,200-meter race at the same time. The race will begin at 12:15 p.m. The women's race is set to start at 11:30 a.m.

Junior Steve Murdock will make his Harry Lang debut after finishing last year with a top time of 24:41 at the Paul Short Invite. Head Coach Chris Fox and assistant coach Brien Bell welcome six newcomers to the team.

The Orange distance runners look to build on the most successful season in program history. Last year, the women finished the season with a No. 25 national ranking and placed 28th in the NCAA Championship. Sophomore Lauryn MacFawn will set the pace for the Orange after placing first in last year's invite with a time of 17:00. Also slated to appear are Harry Lang veterans Lisa Giacometti, who finished in 18:47 in 2008, and junior Tricia Wardwell (18:07). Other experienced Orange women competing include senior Stefanie Slekis, whose top time was 19:51 at last year's John Reif. Newcomer Paige Mullins rounds out the women's side.

Following the Harry Lang Invitational, Syracuse will remain on the road for the Colgate Invitational next Saturday, September 19.
