Outlook: Like last year, Maple Grove will enter the season as the favorite at States, and just like in 2018 the Red Dragons will need to build up the team at the back behind the strong top States medalist trio of Ava Crist, Christina Peppy, and Abby Brunanavas to avoid being runner-up again. The recovery of Carling Lockwood to 2017 form will be key here, and if Tori Pavloch and Hannah Tarbrake can keep pushing up their TRs, the Red Dragons should fly to their fourth state championship and first in seven years. And note, the runners are all juniors or sophomores, so there's room to excel for two years. Clymer-Sherman-Panama is on the rise in S6-D tough, so a Maple Grove 11th straight Sectional win is not quite a lock.

Outlook: The Black Knight pack behind champ Brooke Rauber was just strong enough to earn Tully its first States title in four years in 2018. That pack included seniors Alison Carr and Rachel Berry though, so the Black Knights' squad will require some strong reinforcements if it hopes to defend its D title at Plattsburgh. Back are freshman Katie Edinger and junior Lily Fowler-Conner, and Lauren Yonko was out last year but could be a strong contributor in 2019, so some building blocks for the title defense are there. Rauber will continue to run with the tops in the nation and likely run in the big races at meets such as the McQuaid AAA (with the Black Knights) and Manhattan Eastern States (solo).

Outlook: Molly Huddle's old school fell 5 points short of its first Sectional crown in 35 years in 2018. This could be the year the Crusaders finally break through, as they have their top 4 and all but one of last year's squad back. States medalist Alyssa Walker almost broke into the top 10 in her junior year, and she will now lead a young Crusader pack that appears to have more depth than S4-D reigning champ Delhi.
Outlook: CSP has been running in the shadows of Maple Grove in S6-D, and last year the Wolfpack lost to the Red Dragons by 22-38 in the tiny S6-D race. Both teams lost just their #4 runner, so CSP will be starting fairly closely to where they finished last year. States 7th place finisher Kylee Odell returns in her senior season to lead a young Wolfpack squad in search of a first States visit in 11 years.

Outlook: Delhi was one of the five teams that ran in the first States championship in 1975, and the Bulldogs are still going strong, taking 3rd last year in their 15th States appearance and still seeking their elusive fourth state championship 38 years after winning their third. This year's team has five back from last year's States team, but it will have some work to do to replace Autumn Dorr and Jillian Lees in the lineup. States medalist Sienna Dorr is back to lead the team in an expected scrap in S4-D with Elmira Notre Dame.
Outlook:
The Beavers have won four state championships in their long history, but it's been eight years since they were at States from an S3-D recently dominated by Tully and South Lewis. Conditions are a little less crowded since South Lewis has moved to Class C, and States champ Tully lost two key seniors and has depth issues again. The problem for the Beavers is that they lost their top two of Rylee Campeau and Taylor Moore to graduation, but on the bright side they have a young team that could make some solid gains this year.
