PSAL Boys Shine Bright At City Champs

The weather was perfect at Icahn Stadium yesterday, and the athletes from the PSAL took the opportunity to run fast in stride.  While the Girls put down some impressive marks of their own (Paul Robeson lowered their State Leading 4x100m time), it was the Boys who made a big impact on the All-Time Lists.  We break down some of the big numbers below.

Christopher Columbus Duo Both Pick Up Legal Marks

They fought to the line in the Indoor 300m, but now Outdoors, it would seem they are splitting their focus.  Rashaun Stewart (above) blasted a new 200m personal best of 21.06 to win the final.  The time was just 0.01 off the HS Venue Record set by Rai Benjamin in 2015.  In addition, with the legal wind-reading, it now stands as NY #5 All-Time in the event, and just shy of the PSAL Record of 20.99. On the flip side, Anthony Brodie took home the win in the 400m, lowering his personal best to 47.01, just shy of that sub-46second barrier.  That mark moves him to NY #18 All-Time, and a clear State Leader in the event, for which he is also the defending State Champion.

Wind-Aided Marks Still Fast

All day the wind was precarious, pushing some over the legal limit for record eligible times.  Still, it didn't mean the marks don't count, and we had some strong All-Conditions times.  Brandon Smith (South Shore) took home the 110HH Title in 13.92, with a +2.9m/s tailwind.  The mark is the second fastest All-Conditions FAT mark out of the PSAL ever, and is the State Leader when adjusting for wind.  Over in the 100m, Stewart outleaned teammate Michael Miller JR, running 10.63 to 10.65 respectively.  It would be the fastest team average in the state, but was just marginally over the legal limit at +2.1m/s.

Mane Puts Out Another Big Jump

Much like the Indoor PSAL Champs, Salif Mane (Taft) saved his big jumps for when the title was on the line.  The senior threw out at 51-1.5 to win the competition by a large margin.  The mark doesn't count for record purposes because of a lack of a wind-reading, however it is the second best All-Conditions PSAL mark of All-Time.  If it had been wind-legal, it would have also been NY #4 All-Time, and stand as US #3 this year.
