What a day for the home team. Junior Sarah Trainor (FDR) broke both the State and National Records yesterday in the 2000m Steeple. Running 6:29.08, the mark broke the standing State Record set by Brianna Nerud (North Shore) of 6:29.56 back in 2011, also narrowing past the National Record set by Maddie Meyers (Norwest, WA) at 6:29.20 that very same year.
The mark represented a 12-second personal best for the Junior, who also saw PB's both Indoors and Out at nearly every distance. She opened her Outdoor Season with a 4:35.92 mark for 1500m earlier this April.
We spoke with Trainor this Winter, where she pinpointed the Steeple as a focus this spring. Consider the mission accomplished early, as she is now the quickest prep Steepler ever.
