Two Big Changes Voted In At NYSPHSAA Executive Meeting

Calendar Start Dates Have Been Pushed Back By A Week

Translation: This should be a big time shift in sports calendars for both coaches, and State-Level athletes.  In the past, athletes who were three-sport runners would find XC-Indoor-Spring season's stacked on top of each other.  This would mean that typically, a State Championship would fall on a Saturday, then the following Monday would be the start of the next season.  For Indoor Track, this would go one step further, and for many, the XC State Meet would fall one week into the Indoor Track Season.  Likewise, for Coaches who work with a team for all three seasons, their calendar consisted of practice every week, from late-August to Mid-June, without break.

This new adjustment to the schedule should alleviate the plight for Track Coaches.  With a new gap between Indoor and Spring, there will now be a "gap week" between the two seasons.  Of course, with out-of-season meets like New Balance Nationals, many coaches will still be concentrated on the sport.  The change has no effect on the Championship Dates.
