It was a good weekend to be from Burnt Hills. Not only did the Burnt Hills Boys compete at NXN for the first time since 2009, cheered on in person by 1000m State Record Holder Miles Irish, but their was also a female alumnus making some waves on the running scene.
Sam Roecker (Class of '09) took home third place at the California International Marathon this weekend, among a loaded field. It was her fifth marathon of her career, since graduating Providence, and moving to Philadelphia for a nursing degree. The race represented an 8-minute personal best.
At just under 1000 students, Burnt Hills was the smallest school to compete at NXN this year. However, both their boys and girls teams have made the National Championship in the past. Roecker was the lead girl for the Spartans in 2007 and 2008, bringing both teams to Portland. She had HS Personal Bests of 4:33.92 and 9:42.16.
The finish makes her the fourth fastest Native New Yorker over the Marathon Distance (Pending verification). **Updated
