Following Week of Saturday, October 20
Week 6 rankings play off a couple of meets in and out of state during a weekend that didn't really find many teams pushing the limits. One runner who was going well beyond the limits once again was Katelyn Tuohy during a smashing of her own course record at Bowdoin, and the general consensus was that her 16:45.2 time will last last an eon of two weeks until her next shot at Section 1 State Qualifiers.
The Section 1 Coaches meet had many ranked teams running, but none really had their foot on the gas there with huge county and then the SQ meets just ahead. John Jay - Cross River, North Rockland, Pearl River, and Warwick Valley won races 1-4 respectively, but there were a number of top runners taking a rest to preserve themselves for the challenges ahead.
Out at the Brown Invite in RI, Sacred Heart had the best average time for NY teams with its 2nd in the Championship race, but Goshen and Ward Melville also looked impressive as winners of races 1 and 2. Saratoga without Kelsey Chmiel warmed up for Suburban Council by capturing almost all of the top dozen spots at the Greenwich Invite. Shaker also pushed up its ratings with a win at Albany County, Hilton won at Clarence, Rush Henrietta was tops at Marion, Beaver River took Weedsport, Ursuline won NYC Carnival, CBA Syracuse was the winner at Marathon, and Clinton got the CSC league championship. At midweek, Liverpool won the battle of the state's two top teams over Fayetteville-Manlius in the SCAC league championship.
During the week ahead, the Suburban Council, Monroe County, Section 6 ECIC, Section 4 IAC,
Section 9 OCIAA, Section 1's Rockland-Westchester-Northern trio of
County meets, the PSAL and CHSAA boro or city championships at Van
Cortlandt Park, Section 8 Conference and Section 11 Division championships will be keeping the action moving fast.
