New York Girls State Rankings - Week 4

Following Week of Saturday, October 6

Week 4 rankings saw only small changes since so many teams were either out of action, running partial or JV squads, or taking some leg stretchers in the weekend after an all-out effort at McQuaid. With Manhattan looming next weekend on a day of special importance to the larger squads, there was an air of anticipation around the state as things mainly stayed in place.

But then of course there is Class D and the continuing three-way ladder climbing contest between Tully, Maple Grove, and South Lewis, all of whom are worthy candidates for the top spot. After the Black Knights again hugely widened their speed ratings gap over the Red Dragons and Falcons in an effort that really involved more the number 2 to 5 runners behind Brooke Rauber, Tully wins a three-way virtual contest over Maple Grove and South Lewis by a 37-42-44 score. And again, due to the NYSPHSAA rules, only two of the teams can be part of the state championship race in D.

Besides the Tully win at its host meet and South Lewis win at Whitesboro last weekend, the action saw North Rockland continue to boost the team's speed ratings as Katelyn Tuohy romped to another course record at Holmdel in the NJ Shore Coaches meet. Saratoga was seen once more as it took 2nd in the Great American Race of Champions in NC behind Kelsey Chmiel's big run. Greenwich, Shaker, and Duanesburg all won races at Grout. At St. Anthony's, Arlington, Sacred Heart, and East Aurora battled to an almost dead heat in Race 1. Of Class B import, Pearl River triumphed at Scarsdale while John Jay - Cross River and Hendrick Hudson captured races at Brewster.

A tide of supreme talent will be heading toward Van Cortlandt Park this weekend, and a lot of teams will be heading for the back hills for big efforts that will shake up the rankings again.
